Khreibet Al-Souq alternative intersection designs

Traffic Study and Infrastructure Design for Khreibet Al-Souq Intersection in south Amman, assessing existing traffic conditions and evaluating alternative intersection designs to address peak-hour congestion and deteriorating Level of Service (LOS). The study analyzed the intersection, surrounding roadways, and minor intersections to identify an effective solution for improving traffic flow and network performance.

Project Overview

Khreibet Al-Souq Intersection is a strategically important junction in south Amman, connecting the road serving the central souq to the east with the main arterial corridor extending between Customs Intersection to the north and Airport Road to the south. The existing intersection operates as a signalized, at-grade T-intersection and has experienced increasing traffic demand, resulting in significant congestion and deteriorating Level of Service during peak periods. The objective of the study was to assess the existing traffic performance of the intersection and surrounding road network and identify an effective infrastructure solution to address recurring congestion. The study aimed to evaluate alternative intersection configurations and improve traffic operations, capacity, connectivity, and overall Level of Service during peak-hour conditions. Our company conducted a comprehensive Traffic Study and Infrastructure Assessment, analyzing traffic conditions at Khreibet Al-Souq Intersection and the surrounding roadways and minor intersections. The study evaluated the performance of multiple proposed design alternatives, assessing their ability to accommodate existing and future traffic demand and improve operational conditions. The assessment provided a comparative evaluation of the proposed design alternatives and identified measures to improve traffic flow, reduce peak-hour congestion, and enhance intersection Level of Service. The study supported the development of an appropriate infrastructure solution for the intersection and its surrounding road network, improving overall traffic operations and connectivity in south Amman.
