The Batha Road U-Turn and Service Road Project

Traffic Management Plan (TMP) and Mobility Study for the proposed Batha Road U-Turn and Service Road project along the Batha–Riyadh Highway, assessing construction and operational traffic, highway and industrial access interactions, circulation, and access arrangements. The study used site reconnaissance, observed traffic demand, and microscopic traffic simulation to develop measures supporting safe and efficient mobility throughout construction and after project completion.

Project Overview

The Batha Road U-Turn and Service Road Project is located along the Batha–Riyadh Highway within an industrial environment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The highway is a key regional movement corridor, while the surrounding network comprises local access roads serving industrial and construction facilities, U-turn facilities, and Right-In/Right-Out (RIRO) access arrangements. The project addresses mobility and traffic management requirements associated with the proposed U-turn and service road infrastructure. The study aims to establish an effective Traffic Management Plan and mobility strategy that maintains safe and efficient movement during construction and supports appropriate traffic operations following project completion. Particular focus is placed on managing the interaction between highway traffic and local industrial access movements, maintaining site accessibility, minimizing construction-related disruption, and improving overall road safety. Our company prepared the Traffic Management Plan and Mobility Study, assessing existing traffic conditions, site access requirements, circulation patterns, and the interaction between regional highway traffic and local industrial movements. The study incorporated site reconnaissance, observed traffic demand, network assessment, and microscopic traffic simulation to evaluate traffic operations and develop appropriate traffic management and access strategies for construction and permanent conditions. The study established a practical traffic and mobility framework addressing both temporary construction conditions and permanent operations. Recommendations focused on maintaining safe access, managing construction-related vehicle movements, optimizing U-turn and service road operations, improving access management, and minimizing disruption to the Batha–Riyadh Highway and surrounding industrial road network.
