Project Overview

MODON is planning a strategic dry port logistics area in Dammam 2nd Industrial City to support efficient domestic and international trade. The approximately 1.0 km² development is strategically located with access to the surrounding road network and incorporates a railway corridor passing through the site. The master plan includes an approximately 158,000 m² cargo train handling area and container yard, supported by the required infrastructure, roads, utility networks, and utility facilities. The study aims to evaluate the potential transportation impacts of the proposed dry port on the surrounding road network and establish appropriate measures to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable access to the development. The assessment considers existing and future traffic conditions, development-generated traffic, road and junction performance, accessibility, and road safety within the study area. Engicon was commissioned to provide infrastructure and transportation services for the 1.0 km² project area, including the detailed design of infrastructure, roads, utility networks, and utility facilities in coordination with the surrounding development of Dammam 2nd Industrial City. Our team also prepared the Traffic Impact Study (TIS), establishing the 2024 traffic baseline, forecasting future baseline conditions, assessing the project's traffic impacts, and developing recommendations to improve the serviceability and safety of roads and junctions within the study area. The Traffic Impact Study provided a comprehensive assessment of the dry port's potential impacts on the surrounding transportation network, covering existing conditions, projected traffic demand, and development-related impacts. The study identified appropriate engineering and traffic management recommendations to improve road and junction performance, enhance accessibility, and strengthen road safety, supporting the successful integration of the dry port and its rail-connected logistics operations within Dammam 2nd Industrial City.
