Traffic and Mobility Assessment for the proposed aerial ropeway connecting Jabal Al-Weibdeh, Jabal Al-Qal'ah, and the Roman Theatre, evaluating terminal access, pedestrian circulation, parking, public transport integration, and impacts on the surrounding road network to support sustainable mobility and authority approvals.
The Amman Teleferic Project is a strategic urban mobility and tourism initiative that introduces an aerial ropeway system connecting three of Amman’s most significant heritage destinations: Jabal Al-Weibdeh, Jabal Al-Qal'ah (the Citadel), and the Roman Theatre. The project comprises two detachable monocable ropeway lines connected through four passenger terminals, creating a continuous mobility corridor within the historic core. The project aims to improve accessibility and connectivity between key heritage destinations while overcoming Amman’s challenging topography and reducing reliance on surface transportation within the congested historic core. The teleferic is designed to support sustainable mobility, enhance visitor circulation, and promote integration with public transport and other modes of transportation. Our company prepared the Traffic and Mobility Assessment, evaluating the project’s transportation implications, including access and egress, pedestrian circulation, terminal operations, parking requirements, public transport integration, and impacts on the surrounding road network. We prepared and presented the comprehensive study to the relevant authorities and supported the project through the required approval process. The assessment confirmed that the proposed teleferic represents a sustainable urban mobility solution rather than a conventional traffic-generating development. The project is expected to redistribute visitor movements between major heritage destinations, encourage public transport use, reduce unnecessary private vehicle circulation within the historic core, and improve accessibility and the overall visitor experience.
